Woman’s Press Club of Indiana celebrated winners of its annual communication contest during a banquet May 11 in Indianapolis.
WPCI contest director Kassie Ritman reported that the contest netted 45 entries from professionals and college students, and 19 of those won first place.
“In addition to many submissions in writing, editing and photography categories, we also received an array of less frequently entered works, ranging from novel-length memoir to podcasts and works published to social media outlets,” said Ritman. “The diversity highlights that the Woman’s Press Club of Indiana contest uniquely supports means of communication from traditional to more ‘of the moment.’”
Those first-place winners’ work will move on to compete with others around the nation in the National Federation of Press Women’s contest. WPCI is an affiliate of NFPW, which announces its winners at a national conference in St. Louis in June.
Ritman said she has been notified that 12 of those first-place winners have won awards at the national level.
WPCI also honored scholarship and grant winners:
- Hortense Myers Scholarship of $1,000 to Chloe Kramer, Indiana State University
- Louise Eleanor Ross Kleinhenz Scholarship of $1,000 to Dana Witt Fulks
- Elizabeth and Fred Granger Travel Journalism Scholarship Grant of $500 to Jamie Ward
WPCI President Viv Sade honored members for their contributions:
