Two professionals with long writing careers will share their knowledge at the Woman’s Press Club of Indiana’s Spring Workshop and Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. March 21 at George’s Neighborhood Grill on Indy’s northside, 6935 Lake Plaza Dr. This event is open to the public but reservations are required.
Award-winning writer Jo Ellen Meyers Sharp will talk about her journalism journey, “From Newsprint to Potting Mix: A Career with Dirty Hands,” detailing how her career segued from general reporting to garden writing. According to Sharp, it’s the story of a late bloomer.
Also presenting will be Rachel Sahaidachny, the executive director of the Indiana Writers Center. Her talk, “Indiana Writers Center: The Benefits of a Writing Community,” will describe the programs, classes and other activities of the Indiana Writers Center.
Sharp, a 25-year veteran of print journalism and WPCI member, owns Write for You! LLC, a freelance writing and editing business. She was a regular contributor to Indiana Gardening and founding editor of Iowa Gardener, Michigan Gardening, Minnesota Gardener and Wisconsin Gardening magazines. She wrote an award-winning weekly gardening column for The Indianapolis Star. Sharp blogs for several corporations and is a frequent guest on television, radio and web broadcasts. Prior to joining the Indiana Writers Center, Sahaidachny served as associate editor of The Indianapolis Review. She holds an MFA from Butler University and is former poetry editor of Booth: A Journal. Recent writing has been published in many periodicals, including the South Dakota Review, The Southeast Review, Radar Poetry, and Indiana Humanities.
